Here’s What’s Happening at TLC
Florida Detectives: Discovering the Sunshine State
Thursdays, 10am-12pm 6 weeks, Jan 14- Feb 18 Ages 8-11
Young historians become detectives. Each week we’ll examine real documents, maps, and artifacts, solve a big question about our state, and build something hands-on. We’ll enjoy Florida inspired music and art, and end with a Florida Pop-Up Museum on our final day, where your child gives you the tour.
Young Authors: Writing Workshops
Tuesdays, 10am-12pm 6 weeks, Jan 12- Feb 16 Ages 8-11
We build confident, creative writers in a supportive, hands-on setting. This workshop guides learners through the full writing process, from finding ideas to publishing a finished piece. Kids learn in a mixed-age group, with activities adjusted to each child's age and needs, so beginning writers feel supported and experienced writers are challenged.
Wednesdays, 1 -3pm 6 weeks, Jan 13- Feb 17 Ages 12-14
Help your young writer find their voice and use it. This 6-week workshop treats learners as real writers: they draft, get feedback from peers, revise, and publish. Along the way they explore memoir, short fiction, argument, and poetry, and they learn that good writing comes from honest ideas, careful choices, and revision.
Color Chemist’s Laboratory : Science & Art Collide
Mondays, 10am-12pm 8 weeks, Jan 11- Mar 1 Ages 8-12
Why does cabbage juice change color? Can you unmix a marker? Kids become color chemists, pairing real experiments with art: invisible ink, natural dyes, marbled paper, and more. Every child takes home a lab notebook, a color collection, and original artwork.
Mix it Up! Mixed Media Creativity Adventure
Thursdays, 1-2:30pm 4 weeks, Jan 14- Feb 4 Ages 8+
Fridays, 10am-12pm 4 weeks, Jan 15- Feb 5 Ages 8+
Four weeks of making, experimenting, and finding your own creativity. Give your young artist the chance to explore, experiment, and create something that is truly their own. In this mixed media workshop, kids will work with a wide range of materials, including paint, ink, collage, found objects, and fabric, and learn how to combine them in ways that surprise and delight. No prior art experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to play.
